DIC(K) begins election process

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) has started the process of conducting its organisational elections. In the first round, the party has announced the appointments of District Returning Officers, who would, in consultation with the respective district committee, appoint the returning officers for the election of booth, mandalam and block committees and office-bearers, DIC(K) State Election Authority K.R. Kurup said here in a statement. DIC(K) president K. Muraleedharan and K. Karunakaran had promised that their party would conduct organisational polls.

The process is expected to gather steam soon after Mr. Muraleedharan concludes his padayatra in the first week of January. In one of his press conferences, Mr. Karunakaran had asserted that the DIC (K)'s organisational polls would be totally dissimilar to the one the Congress party held. He had said that the DIC (K) was formed because the Congress leadership had refused to concede his demand for conducting organisational elections. The move to conduct organisational elections is also significant because it is expected to attract disgruntled elements in the Congress, according to party sources.
