March 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha has urged the Central government to constitute a new committee to formulate the National Fisheries Policy, giving due representation to stakeholders.

The secretary of the Sabha, V.Dinakaran on Wednesday stressed the need to frame the new policy after consultations with State governments. It said State governments and stakeholder fishermen organisations had been sidelined in the constitution of the seven-member committee appointed by the Centre to review the policy. It also called on the Centre to fix the terms of the committee based on the recommendations of the Murari committee.
