Database of landholdings in Kannur soon

KANNUR NOV. 13. The Revenue Department will launch an action plan to create a database of land possession in the district and complete it in a time-bound manner.

Announcing this at a press conference, the District Collector, K.S. Srinivas, said revenue-related works in the district were still being carried out as per the resettlement documents prepared in 1930s. Only very few villages where resurvey works had been completed recently were able to provide adequate documents on each landholding. For the past three decades, changes required to be made in Revenue Department documents after each land transaction had not been made.

The situation had reached a stage where the Revenue Department here was not able to issue land-related certificates and documents without delay. The revenue administration was also not able to improve its functioning as a result, he said.

As per the action plan, each landholder in the district was required to submit details in separate forms on each of his/her landholding along with documents or their true copies to respective village offices before November 30, 2003. The forms would be available in the village offices. The village officers concerned would examine the information given in the forms, make enquiries and hand over the certified forms to the taluk offices concerned before December 31, he added.

The National Informatic Centre at the Collectorate here would create a database on the landholdings on the basis of the certified details on each land possession.
