CPI(M) leader flays police policy

PATHANAMTHITTA, AUG 14. The Deputy Leader of the CPI(M) Legislature Party, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, today alleged that the `negative' police policy of the Antony Government had led to `criminalisation' of the law and order machinery, besides leaving the State at the mercy of the spirit, sand and `blade' mafia.

Mr. Balakrishnan was inaugurating the CPI(M) march to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police here in protest against the alleged police excesses on the workers of the CPI(M), DYFI and the SFI in the district.

He alleged that the police as well as the ruling UDF had been patronising the `mafiaraj' in the State.

The CPI(M) State secretariat member, R. Unnikrishna Pillai, the district secretary, K. Ananthagopan, the Kerala Karshaka Thozhilali Union district secretary, V.R. Sivarajan, the former MLA, A. Padmakumar, and the district panchayat member, Omalloor Sankaran, were among those who have addressed the march.
