Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: Speakers at a media workshop on Female Foeticide claimed that the trends in the State indicated an increase in female foeticide.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Sabu M. George, representative of Centre for Women's Development Studies, New Delhi, which organised the workshop along with the Calicut Press Club, said that incidents of female foeticide were yet to be reported (openly). The male-female ratio in Kunnathunadu was found to have decreased.

He said that at least 10 per cent of the ultrasound scanning clinics in the State was not registered. The State unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had agreed in principle to rein in CT scanning units, but not ultrasound scanning clinics.
