Computer purchase: 'bid to keep out Keltron'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM OCT. 3. The UDF parliamentary party leader in the City Corporation Council, K. Maheswaran Nair, has alleged a conspiracy to keep out the public-sector Keltron from the competitive bids for supply of equipment under the computerisation programme of the civic body.

In a pressnote issued here today, he said the Corporation authorities had conspired to reject the tender submitted by Keltron for the Rs. 60-lakh order.

Mr. Nair alleged that the civic body had insisted on Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) from Keltron even though Government bodies were exempted from this condition. He said Keltron had agreed to supply world-class IBM computers while other companies had quoted for inferior products.

Mr. Nair said the Corporation had failed to respond to Keltron's assurance on lowering the quoted prices.
