Cheque forgery case: no breakthrough yet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 17. The police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case relating to the theft of Rs.10 lakhs from the account of the State TB Cell using a forged cheque on March 7.

The investigating officers today verified the statement of a bank official who said the money was withdrawn by a staff of the Health Department.

An official said there were several discrepancies in the statement. The police searched the house of a TB cell staff as part of the investigation.

The leaves at the bottom of the chequebook were used for committing the forgery. The fraud came to light on March 14.
