Task force to be formed for policy

Union Minister for Commerce Suresh Prabhu has said the government policy on rubber will be announced soon.

In a question to Joice George, MP, in Parliament, Mr Prabhu said a task force, comprising representatives of the sector at various levels, would be formed to prepare the rubber policy.

The task force would be under the Union and State governments.

New measures

The government would also draw up long-term and short-term measures to protect rubber cultivation and rubber-based industries.

The Minister said the prices of natural rubber were decided by many factors, including competition in global market, availability of rubber, climatic conditions, and prices of petroleum products.

The government had already drawn up projects to promote rubber cultivation.
