Call to ensure compliance to Provident Fund norms

Commissioner's office equipped to track down on non-compliance

KOCHI: Contract workers are covered under the Provident Fund Act and it is the duty of the principal employer to ensure compliance, the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner V.G. Divakaran, has said.

Speaking at an interactive session on Employees' State Insurance Scheme and Employees' Provident Fund, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Mr. Divakaran said the office of the PF Commissioner has a mechanism to track down on non-compliance. N. Balachandran Nair, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-Kochi, and U.H.Rao, Regional Director, Employees Provident Fund Organisation, were present.

Even loss-making units registered under BIFR would have to comply with the PF regulations. There is provision for imposing penalty on violators. Prosecution and recovery proceedings can be initiated against the violators, he said.

Regional Commissioner N.Balachandran Nair said the claims were being settled within 30 days.

Every month an adalat is conducted to sort out the problems faced by the members.

Mr. Rao said model ESI hospitals have been set up in each State.
