Call to codify adoption laws

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 24. The need for codifying laws pertaining to adoption of children was stressed by Babu Divakaran, Minister for Labour.

Inaugurating the fourth anniversary celebrations and the family get-together of the Kerala Adoptive Families Organisation (KAFO), at a function held here today, he recalled that there was no uniform law regarding adoption, an area that needed special focus and concern.

He wanted organisations like the KAFO to take the initiative in improving the status of the adopted children as well as adoptive parents. The Minister also expressed the hope that adoption would help eliminate the caste and creed differences existing in society.

M. S. Kumar, BJP State secretary, presided over the function.

Paul Parambi, KAFO general secretary, welcomed the gathering and S. Haridas, secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
