Card-less recharge from January 20

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BSNL in association with Oxigen India Prepaid Services will offer its prepaid mobile customers a card-less recharge facility from January 20.

At the Oxigen outlets - initially there will be 250 across the State - customers will be issued a secret code on payment of charges for the preferred recharge amount.

They can instantly recharge their service by entering this code into their mobile phone.

This was stated by Chief General Manager of the BSNL Kerala Circle S.A. Thomas at a press conference here on Friday.

Eventually, there will be about 3,000 such locations across the State.

This arrangement will ensure recharge-on-demand convenience for BSNL's customers, he said.

The present system of issuing recharge cards will be continued.

Pre-paid connections are being given on demand from December 15 onwards. "As of today, the daily requests for Excel connections are in the range of 3,000 to 4,000 a day," he said.

The new lifetime validity Excel Anant service for Rs.949 will be offered from January 16 in the circle. New recharge coupons of Rs.200 will be issued from January 20.

To ensure "carpet mobile coverage" in the State, the BSNL needs to set up 800 more mobile towers. He said that 600 towers would be commissioned by the end of March this year.

"As of now 1,010 towers are on air in Kerala. The circle has now more than 12 lakh customers for the mobile services. BSNL's target will be to make this 14 lakhs by the end of March this year," he said.

"As of December 31, 2005 the circle had 3.13 lakh customers waiting to get landline connections. This is the highest for any telecom circle in the country."

On April 1, 2005 this figure was 3.57 lakhs. By the end of March 2006, BSNL plans to give connections to all those in the wait list as on March 31, 2005.
