`BSNL pensioners denied benefits'

KOZHIKODE, OCT. 7. The Central Government Pensioners' Association, Kerala, has expressed concern over the non-implementation of pension benefits to the pensioners of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

The Kozhikode unit secretary of the Association, V.M.N. Iyer, in a statement here today, said that from October 1, 2000, the employees and pensioners of BSNL had been entitled to variable Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) every quarter on the orders of the Union Ministry for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

He said the BSNL pensioners received their pension along with IDA from their respective banks or post offices according to their option. However, many pension disturbing authorities were not adhering to the instruction on IDA payment simply because the order had not specifically mentioned that it was applicable to pensioners.

He said that many of the pensioners had not received their IDA since July 1, 2003. Though the Association had brought the matter to the notice of the authorities no remedial measures had been taken till now, he said.
