Lok Sabha byelection result today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Counting of votes polled in the November 18 Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha byelection will begin at 8 a. m. on Tuesday.

The votes will be taken up for counting on the basis of Assembly segments, with 14 tables for each of them.

The result is likely to be known before noon as the polling was conducted using electronic voting machines. The main contenders in the byelection were V.S. Sivakumar (United Democratic Front), Pannian Ravindran (Left Democratic Front) and C.K. Padmanabhan (Bharatiya Janata Party). — Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The regional news unit of Akashavani, Thiruvananthapuram, will broadcast special Lok Sabha byelection bulletins on Tuesday. The special bulletins will be broadcast at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m.

The duration of the news bulletins at 12.30 p.m. and 6.20 p.m. on Tuesday will be extended by five minutes. Apart from this, election result would be available on AIR's `News on Phone' service by dialling 125900. — Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The railways have provided one more additional AC 3-Tier coach in three express trains running from Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram to Guwahati and Jaipur. According to the railways, the additional coach had been introduced in the 5623/5624 Ernakulam-Guwahati Express, the 5627/5628 Thiruvananthapuram-Guwahati Express and the 2977/2978 Ernakulam-Jaipur Express. — Staff Reporter

SFI begins satyagraha

KOTTAYAM: The Students Federation of India (SFI) on Monday launched an indefinite satyagraha before the MG University demanding stringent action against those involved in the sexual assault against a first year student at the School of Medical Education (SME). The former district secretary of the CPI(M) and State committee member Vaikom Viswan inaugurated the satyagraha. State secretary of the All India Students Federation (AISF) Mahesh Kakkath at a press conference called for cancelling the affiliation of the SME. MALAPPURAM: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has invited applications from youngsters for various posts. The recruitment rally will be held in Kozhikode in January. Those who have passed the Plus Two examination with 50 per cent marks in mathematics, physics and English and aged below 22 can apply for technical posts. Those with a three-year polytechnic certificate can also apply. Those who have passed the 10th standard examination with 50 per cent marks and aged 16 to 20 can apply for non-technical posts.

Graduate diploma-holders in teaching can apply for education instructor posts. Graduates with one year's teaching experience or postgraduates with a second class can also apply for these posts. The applicants should be aged between 20 and 28. — Staff Reporter

IFFK: date extended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The last date for submitting applications for delegate pass for the 10th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) has been extended up to November 30. The festival will begin here on December 9 and conclude on December 16. Thiruvananthapuram: The KSRTC on Monday placed under suspension three mechanics at the Pala unit for fixing the tyre of a superfast bus bound for Bangalore improperly.
