Bonus finalised for workers in district

KOLLAM, AUG. 21. The Assistant District Labour Officer, Rashid Ottathengil, today said that an agreement had been reached on the issue of bonus for workers employed in the various sectors in the district following talks between the Labour Department and the persons concerned.

Hike in wages

As per the agreement, headload workers in Kollam market and the Railway goods shed will get a hike in wages and bonus. The bonus for private bus employees will be 12.5 per cent of their salary during 2003-04. The bonus for hotel and restaurant employees is 20 per cent, 14.5 per cent ex gratia, Rs. 2,500 as festival advance and holiday wages for seven days.

Lorry drivers will get bonus of Rs. 3,100 and cleaners, Rs. 2,600. Workers in the parcel service sector will get bonus of Rs. 200 higher than last year. They will also get a 5 per cent hike in wages plus Rs. 4,000 as festival advance.

The employees of Parvathi Mills here will get a get a festival advance of Rs. 4,500 each. Drivers and cleaners of Milma contract vehicles will get bonus of Rs. 3,700 and Rs. 3,050 respectively.

Cashew workers

The Labour Office said that as per the announcement of the Industrial Relations Committee, cashew workers will get 20 per cent bonus plus .5 per cent as ex gratia. The minimum bonus for cashew workers has been hiked to Rs. 2,000.

However, the cashew workers of the KSCDC factories that are closed will get bonus of Rs. 1,000. The KSCDC staff will get one month's salary as bonus.
