Bid to disrupt Youth Congress meet foiled

KOLLAM, JULY 24. Attempts by a rival group to disrupt the maiden meeting of the newly appointed district Youth Congress committee office-bearers drew a blank following the intervention of the Youth Congress State president, K.P. Anil Kumar.

Mr. Anil Kumar gave assurance to the rival faction that their complaints would be considered by the State committee and that two State leaders of the organisation would arrive here on July 27 for the purpose. But he put forward the condition that the complaints would be considered only if today's meeting was allowed to be carried forward smoothly to which the latter obliged.

However, there was tension within the DCC complex this morning as those from the rival faction gathered there and openly proclaimed that they would disrupt the meeting.

Rivals feel sidelined

The rivals said that they were hurt because many of them who had long association with the organisation had been sidelined while constituting the new committee.

They also alleged that many of those who had been appointed as office-bearers in the new committee had no qualification to occupy that post. Strongly worded press statements were issued by the rival faction led, G.K. Madhu, against the new committee. Mr. Madhu was suspended from the organisation for issuing press statements.
