Awareness programmes against Maoists

January 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MANANTHAVADY:

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said the party will launch awareness programmes at the grassroots level to counter the Maoist menace in the district.

After inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the valedictory function of a three-day district conference of the CPI(M) at Mananthavady in the district on Saturday, Mr. Kodiyeri said the party would launch campaigns in the tribal settlements of the district as a part of the awareness programme.

He said dearth of infrastructure in the settlements owing to the ruling front’s neglect was the major reason for the infiltration of ‘Maoists’ into the settlements.

All the major development measures launched by the LDF government to uplift the marginalised sections had been sabotaged by the UDF government, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

The UDF government had become a symbol of corruption, he added.

C.K. Saseendran, district unit secretary, presided over the function.
