Maveli stores

to be open

KOCHI, AUG. 21. The Maveli stores, Labham markets, super markets and other depots run by the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) will function on August 22 and 27 on account of Onam, said an official press note here today.

BJP siege

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lay siege to the village offices in the State on Monday in protest against what it calls the anti-people policies of the State and Central Governments. The BJP State general secretary, K. Raman Pillai, will inaugurate the picketing at Thripunithura.

Bank strike

The All India Bank Officers Association will take part in the proposed bank strike on August 24, said A.V. Pappachan, district secretary of the association here today. The strike is against the `adamant' stand being followed by the Government and the Indian Banks Association towards the demands of bank officers.

Entries invited

Entries have been invited from journalists for the Dr. Moorkkannur Narayanan Award of the Kerala Press Academy. The best Assembly report published in 2003 will get the award. The last date to apply to the Kerala Press Academy, Kakkanad, is September 1.

Seats vacant

A few seats reserved for SC/ST candidates in postgraduate degree courses of statistics, physics, Sanskrit and Arabic are vacant at the Maharaja's College. Qualified candidates can contact the respective heads of department on Monday.

Selected

Five panchayats have been selected from Ernakulam district for the Government's Jalanidhi project. They are Palakkuzha, Manjallur, Chendamangalam, Kadungallur and Thuravur.
