Power supply disruption

KOCHI, MARCH 3. Electricity supply will be disrupted between 9 a.m. and 5 p. m. on Thursday in the areas between Vyttila Junction and Ponnurunny railway crossing. Electricity supply will be shut down owing to repair works on the transmission lines, said an official at the KSEB's Vyttila office.

Awards for scribes

P.K. Prakash, staff reporter of Madhyamam daily, has won the "Journalism for Human Rights" award for 2003 instituted by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL). The award consists of a purse of Rs.20, 000. Mr. Prakash won the award for his reports on the Adivasi land issue. Raju Paul, Kochi bureau chief of the Mangalam daily, has won the best reporting award instituted by the National Safety Council. Mr. Paul won the award for his report on adulterated milk marketed in the State.

Medical care scheme

The Employees State Insurance Corporation has decided to extent medical care under the scheme to the family members of insured persons who reside in other States. Earlier, the facility was available only to those who reside within the State. Those who wish to avail the facility are requested to contact the branch offices concerned, according to an official communication from ESI Corporation.
