Holiday declared

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 26. The District Collector has declared a holiday for all Government offices and educational institutions in the district on March 6 in view of the Pongala festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, an official release said.

Medical camp begins today

The Latheen Catholikka Aikyavedi and the Zam-Zam Association will organise a week-long medical camp at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Library in Valiyathura from February 27. The Health Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, will inaugurate the camp at 9-30 a.m.

Road signage scheme

The Mayor, J. Chandra, inaugurated the road signage scheme at the Government Higher Secondary School, Medical College. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Chandra expressed concern over speeding and the rise in two-wheeler mishaps in the city. The law enforcing agencies should take urgent steps to ensure that road-users follow traffic rules, she added. The cine actor, Suresh Gopi, released the Malayalam version of the book `Road Safety Education', written by N. S. Srinivasan, Chairman of the Research Council of Natpac. The Director of Natpac, T. Elangovan, and the former Chairman of the Railway Board, M.N. Prasad, attended the seminar.

`Misleading campaign'

The India Shining campaign of the BJP Government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee was meant to mislead the people of the country, according to the former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, N.A. Karim. He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on the `Forthcoming elections: Problems and Approach', organised by the Bhajunavedi here today.
