Nephrology meet inaugurated

KOCHI: The 36th annual conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISNCON 2005) was inaugurated here on Thursday by Vice-Admiral S.C S. Bangara, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.

At the inaugural function, K.S. Chugh, known as the father of nephrology and the founder of the society, was given a Life Time Achievement Award. About 700 delegates are participating in the 3-day conference.

The conference will provide a platform to discuss and deliberate recent advances in the treatment of renal diseases. — Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The modification work of the signalling system of the Ernakulam Junction railway station will be taken up from December 3 to 5. During this period, trains running via Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town are likely to get delayed by about 15 to 20 minutes. — Staff Reporter

Chinese naval ships depart

Kochi: Two ships of the Chinese Navy `Shenzhen' along with `Weishanhu', which arrived in Kochi on November 28, left on Thursday. Rear Admiral Rajender Singh, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, was present at the jetty to see off the ships. — Staff Reporter

Ruby jubilee

Kochi: The valedictory function of the ruby jubilee of St. Paul's College, Kalamassery, will be held from December 5. Minister for Fisheries and Sports Dominic Presentation will inaugurate the five-day programme on Monday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is expected to participate in the function on December 9. — Staff Reporter
