Applications invited for Chevening scholarships

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM.: The British Council has invited applications for the British Chevening scholarships for the academic year beginning September 2006.

A press note issued here said these scholarships are for a range of short and long-term "tailor-made professional courses" at various institutions of higher education in Britain.

The objective of the scholarships is to encourage Indian students and professionals to study in the U.K. and come back to India "to contribute to ongoing and future work in the relevant discipline."

Long-term scholarships are available under the categories: `Open sustainable development scholarships'; `Open economic governance, finance and public administration scholarships'; `Open science and innovation scholarships'; and `Indian friends of London School of Economics shared scholarships.'

The short-term professional scholarships are the `Gurukul senior scholarships in leadership and excellence', `Women in leadership and management programme', `Young Indian print journalists programme', `Young Indian broadcast journalists programme' and the `Environment management and sustainable development programme.'

The last date for submitting the applications is November 30. Preference would be given to candidates with a minimum of two to three years of work experience in the relevant field.
