Allianz Cornhill expands operations in State

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 11. Allianz Cornhill has expanded its operational base in Kerala by opening a new office at the Technopark here.

As part of its second phase of expansion, the general insurance company that is based in the United Kingdom (U.K.) set up its new office of Allianz Cornhill Information Services (ACIS) on the `Bhavani' site at the Technopark. It was inaugurated by Andrew Torrance, chief executive officer of Allianz Cornhill, U.K.

The Minister for Industries and Information Technology, P.K. Kunhalikutty, who was the chief guest, launched the company's website.

Government support

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister offered the State Government's support to develop IT and to expand the operations of Technopark-based companies.

While thanking Allianz Cornhill for choosing Technopark as the site for its IT operations, Mr.Kunhalikutty expressed his deep satisfaction at the pace at which the company was expanding its operations. He was also happy that the companies functioning from the Technopark here had disproved the contention that Kerala was not a safe place for investment.

Addressing the gathering, Mr.Torrance expressed satisfaction over the quality of infrastructure facilities, high performance standards and professionalism at the Technopark. He lauded the progress Allianz Cornhill, India, had achieved in a very short period of time and reiterated the Company's commitment to expanding its Indian operations.

Pointing out that off-shoring of business processes was an inevitable by-product of the info-tech revolution, he said ACIS in Kerala had only endorsed Allianz Cornhill's decision to come to India and especially, Kerala.

Allianz Cornhill, India COO, Rakesh Gupta, in his welcome address, said that the company, which already had 175 professionals on its rolls, would have a strength of 400 professionals by the end of 2005.

The decision of Allianz Cornhill to make a financial investment of approximately Rs. 50 crores was the beginning of more things to come in the years ahead.

Mr. Andrew Torrance gave away certificates to two ACIS employees, Sindhu Vasudevan and Brijesh Vapala, who had utilised the fast track opportunities in the company and passed the Underwriting Academy certification earlier this month. They had a two-month stint in the U.K. for the same.
