Alappuzha beach festival from today

ALAPPUZHA DEC. 24. The Alappuzha beach festival, being organised jointly by the Alappuzha municipality and the District Tourism Promotion Council, will begin on December 25, Christmas day, the District Collector, K.M. Ramanandan, said here today.

The Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas, will inaugurate the festival at a function at the Alappuzha beach at 5 p.m. The MLA, K.C. Venugopal, will preside over the function.

The film star, Gopi, and the theatre personality, Kavalam Narayana Panicker, would light a lamp at the venue. The film director, Fazil, will also participate in the function. The district panchayat president, C.S. Sujata, and the Alappuzha municipal chairperson, Lalithamma Swaminathan, would offer felicitations.

Artistes from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka would perform various art forms at 7 p.m. This would be followed by a recital of film songs by K.P. Brahmanandan and team.

Various competitions would be held as a part of the festival on December 29. A display of the various art forms of the State would be held 6.30 p.m. on the day. The various programmes which would be staged on December 30 include cinematic dance, a mega show by Sajan Palluruthy and a ganamela.
