The Fisheries Department here has warned that penal action will be taken against fishing boats and craft here that violate trawl ban coming into force on June 14 midnight.

A department press release here on Tuesday said that fishing boats of fishermen, including those from neighbouring States, should leave the coasts here before June 14 midnight. Pair trawling and mini trawling using traditional craft had also been banned during the period.

Owners of traditional fishing craft should keep the names of fishermen and their mobile number, the release said.

A 24-hour control room has been opened at the Fisheries Centre here. Incidents of mishaps at sea should be informed to the control room. Call 0497-2732487, 94960 07039 or 94960 07033.
