KERALA

`Acid man' nabbed

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: The elusive ``acid man'' who spread fear over Kollam city two years ago has been reportedly nabbed. Circle Inspector at the East Police station N.A. Rasheed gave the identity of the accused as Kalesh (32).

He was nabbed by watchmen while allegedly trying to break into a textile shop at 2 a.m. on Thursday at Chinnakada. The police feel that Kalesh could be mentally deranged. The ``acid man'' had terrorised the city to such an extent that in the areas where he was spotted, the windows and doors of all houses had been kept closed soon after sunset. But there was no incident of the ``acid man'' attacking anyone and the only item he stole was food. Eyewitnesses at that time had given strange descriptions of the ``acid man.'' The police had reached the conclusion that Kalesh was the ``acid man'' following interrogations and his confession. He was produced before a court and remanded.
