Arjun Krishnan, an undergraduate student of Philosophy at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, who sustained stab injuries during a clash on the campus on July 1, was discharged from a private hospital here on Saturday.

The 19-year-old had sustained serious injuries to his liver and gut during the violent clash between SFI and PFI activists, culminating in the death of Abhimanyu. While Arjun’s injuries were no less serious, his life could be saved only because he was rushed to hospital.

Arjun will now be staying at a relative’s house in Kochi as part of his next course of treatment.

Nine arrested

The police have so far arrested nine persons in connection with the case and have interrogated over 150. Eighteen more — all SDPI and PFI activists — have been taken into custody for interrogation.

K.H. Nasar, State general secretary of the PFI, who was arrested from his house at Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam, was released on Saturday morning.

Officials said Nasar had to be shifted to hospital during interrogation after he complained of uneasiness.

Meanwhile, the Ernakulam Rural Police arrested eight SDPI activists for staging a demonstration without permission. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded in custody.

The investigators, however, are yet to arrest any of the assailants who were directly involved in the attack.

While reports have come out suggesting that some of them have already fled the country, the police are yet to confirm it.
