The women entrepreneurs of Kozhikode need not look elsewhere for an opportunity to market their products now. The Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbasree has opened the doors of its latest project to all women, individually and in groups, who need a platform to launch themselves in the field of business.
The Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbasree is all set to develop the Kudumbasree Bazaar project proposed by the Kudumbasree State Mission into a one-of-its-kind mall. The ‘Mahila Mall’ will come up on Bank Road, in the heart of the city, on a 54-cent plot. The 36,000 sq ft five-storey mall will house shops run by Kudumbasree members, individual woman entrepreneurs and women communities.
“The running of the mall will be completely in the hands of women, in administration, management and everything else,” said M.V. Ramsy Ismail, Kudumbasree Project Officer of the Corporation.
All kinds of enterprises
The mall will house all kinds of enterprises such as supermarket, food court, kids park, spa, beauty parlour, women’s bank, fancy stores, textiles and ready-mades, boutiques, footwear, dry cleaning, car washing, opticals, handicrafts, baby care, home appliances and book stall. Besides, there will be conference rooms, training centres and underground car parking facility.
The Kudumbasree Bazaar, which will be a permanent outlet for Kudumbasree products, will be set up on the premises of the mall in the second phase. At present, the Kudumbasree members get to sell their products only at the fairs organised during festival seasons. Once the season is over, these products are not available anywhere. The Kudumbasree Bazaar will ensure that these products are available for the needy round the year. The mission plans to set up bazaars in all districts.
The booking for the shops in the mall, which is under construction, has already started. Kudumbasree members will be offered a 10% discount in rent and need to pay only six months’ rent in advance while others need to pay 10 months’ rent.
