Minister calls for people’s cooperation in the development initiatives

Road to be developed into four-lane stretch

Underpass to come up at Chinnakada

KOLLAM: Minister for Local Self-Government Institutions Paloli Mohammed Kutty has called for the cooperation of the people for implementing various civic development projects.

He was inaugurating the construction work on the Kollam Corporation’s two major projects here on Saturday.

The projects are the development of the Kappalandimukku-Asramam Road into a four-lane stretch and the construction of an underpass through the Chinnakada over bridge. The Minister said while all urban areas in the State were fast growing, the rural areas were in an urbanisation phase.

This growth has to be complemented by a scientific development process. No development can take place without wide roads. For the construction of roads, there will have to be some land acquisition and evictions. All these are in

the interests of development.

So for development to take place, there has to be cooperation from the people. Only the can projects be completed in a time-bound manner.

He called upon the Kollam Corporation to ensure the completion of the two projects within the stipulated time.

Traffic congestion

Mayor N. Padmalochanan presided over the function. Addressing the function, Kollam MLA and Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan said the projects, when commissioned, would help in easing traffic congestion now encountered in the Chinnakada area of the city.
