Women unburden themselves

KOZHIKODE: Women related traumatic experiences of violence and discrimination they encountered in life at the women’s court organised here on Saturday.

A woman related how her daughter was doused with kerosene and burnt to death. Another spoke of the harassment she suffered for giving birth to a girl. One was forced to abort her female baby.

Anweshi, a women’s organisation, held the court jointly with the Kerala Stree Vedi, Abhaya, Mahilasamakhia and the Human Rights Law Network. Sara Joseph, writer, inaugurated the court. Anweshi president K. Ajitha presided. The effort was to come together, examine, and deliberate on the extent of prevalence of dowry, domestic violence and female foeticide in society and their impact on women.
