As Bhagyadevatha reaches the loyal audience of director Sathyan Anthikad, the film’s heroine Kaniha is keeping her fingers crossed, in Washington. She is hoping Lady Luck will smile on Bhagyadevatha and her career in Malayalam cinema.

“Playing Daisy in Bhagyadevatha was an enjoyable experience,” Kaniha told The Hindu in an email interview. “Daisy is a kind-hearted girl but certain moments in her life make her take some tough decisions.”

Kaniha is also excited about her next release, Pazhassi Raja, the much-awaited period film that brings M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Hariharan and Mammootty together after the epic, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha. She plays the heroine, Queen Kaitheri Makkam.

Though she moved to the U.S. after her marriage last year, Kaniha says she will fly to Kerala if good offers come her way. “I have the support of my husband Shyam in this,” says the mechanical engineering graduate from BITS, Pilani, and former Miss Chennai.

“I love the Malayalam industry for two reasons: they make quality films and they do that in a very short period,” she says. “It was great working with Sathyan Anthikad for Bhagyadevatha. From day one to day 30 of the shoot, there was never a frown on his face. Working with Jayaram too was very pleasant. I have enjoyed watching him as an actor long before I got to act with him,” she says.
