Vehicles checked as part of mock drill

KOCHI: Different security agencies under the Coastal Security Command conducted checking of vehicles and people along the coast and roads leading out of the coastal belt on Tuesday night as part of a mock drill.

Naval and police officials were involved in the drill.

A senior police official said simulating real life situations involving a terrorist intrusion is the key in the drill.

The idea is to streamline the coordination between different agencies involved, such as the Navy, police, Coast Guard, revenue officials, and excise.

Initially, the city residents thought it was part of the usual checking by the City Police. Vehicles were checked during the night hours. But by morning, it was clear that the drill involved more agencies.

The drill is expected to continue for a couple of days more.
