Unite, trade unions told

KOCHI: Minister for Labour P.K. Gurudasan said here on Sunday that trade unions should unite to fight the Union government policies which aim at reducing the number of employees in the Railways and other public sector undertakings and at outsourcing works. He said that the loco running staff in the Railways were still at the receiving end of a working hours’ policy similar to one that existed during the British rule. The Minister also declared solidarity with the protests being undertaken by the All-India Loco Running Staff Association against the anti-worker policies of the Union government. The Minister was inaugurating the valedictory function of the all-India working committee meeting of the Loco Running Staff Association here on Sunday. Sebastian Paul, MP, and various trade union leaders, including A. Janakiraman, M.N. Prasad, K.A.S. Mani, P.G. Sasheendran, Ali Akbar, R.G. Pillai and M.M. Rolley spoke.
