KOLLAM: Abdul Jabbar, 47, a rubber trader, was hacked to death by a couple and a relative of theirs at a rubber estate, near Kadakkal, on Sunday.

The woman, Arifa Beevi, was arrested by the Kadakkal police. Her husband, Kabir, and his relative Shanavas are absconding, the police said.

Jabbar who had his trading concern at Poredam, near Chadayamangalam, had purchased a small rubber estate at Ellampazhanjur, near Kadakkal, a few months ago for his younger brother Nazar. After the purchase they realised that there was a boundary dispute with Arifa Beevi, a proximate neighbour, the police said.

Jabbar decided to sell the property. He reached the property on Sunday with his brothers Nazar and Ramli and some others to measure it. Arifa Beevi started throwing stones at them. Some of them went to the Kadakkal police station to lodge a complaint. Kabir and Shanavas arrived on the spot on a motorbike. The duo entered into an argument with Jabbar and his brothers. In a fit of rage, Kabir hacked Jabbar, the police said.

Jabbar was declared dead on arrival at a Thiruvananthapuram hospital. The body was shifted to the Medical College Hospital for autopsy on Monday.
