Thrissur: The Thrissur Corporation plans to construct three subways in the city under the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development project (KSUDP) at an estimated cost of Rs.2.2 crore. Laying the foundation for a new subway at Paramekkavu junction on Saturday, Mayor R. Bindu said the work would be completed within six months.

The other subways will be constructed at the District Hospital junction and the Naikkanal junction. The city has a single subway now at M.O. Road Junction in the Swaraj Round. Under KSUDP, the Asian Development Bank will provide funds for constructing the new subways.

The locations for the subways have been decided on the basis of a survey conducted by the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre. According to the survey, about 2,000 people cross the road at Paramekkavu junction during peak hours.
