PATHANAMTHITTA: The ceremonial procession carrying the Thanka Anki, sacred golden attire, will set off to Sabarimala from the Sree Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula on Monday morning.

The sacred attire, draped on an Ayyappa idol, will be taken on a motor chariot up to Pampa and from there to the Sannidhanam in a box by Ayyappa Seva Sanghom volunteers.

The attire weighing 420 sovereigns of gold was offered to the Ayyappa temple by Sree Chithira Tirunal in 1973.

The procession, escorted by armed police personnel and Travancore Devaswom Board officials, will halt at the Raktakanta Swami Temple at Omalloor, near Pathanamthitta, in the night.

It will reach the Muringamangalam Temple near Konni on Tuesday evening and halt there and the next night it will halt at the Sastha Temple at Perinad.

The procession will reach Pampa on Thursday forenoon. From there Ayyappa Seva Sanghom volunteers will take the sacred attire on their head to the Sannidhanam. The Devaswom authorities will receive the golden attire at Saramkuthi in the afternoon.

The Sabarimala Ayyappa idol will be adorned with the golden attire prior to ‘deeparadhana’ on Thursday and prior to the Mandalapuja on Friday.

The temple will be closed after ‘athazhapuja’ in the evening, marking the culmination of the 41-day Mandalam festival.
