Thangam Philip dead

KOTTAYAM: Thangam E. Philip, Padma Shri awardee and one of the veterans in the area of catering and tourism in the country, died at a private hospital here on Wednesday morning. She was 87.

A prolific writer on cookery, she was Principal Emeritus of the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai, and consultant to leading institutions in the area of hospitality industry.

Born to T.P. Philip and Elizabeth Philip of Thevarthundiyil family in Kozhikode, she did her M.S. from the U.S. in 1960. She was unmarried and was leading a retired life at Pallom, near here, for the past few years.

Her funeral will be held at Pannimattom CSI Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
