Technology saves a day

Singer K.J. Yesudas was scheduled to open a `people's safety' convention, on Mullaperiyar, held at Palarivattom on Thursday. Organised by the Confederation of Mullaperiyar Action Committees and other organisations, the meeting was meant to put pressure on the Governments to take precautionary steps to save the lives of people living downstream.

The singer could not make it to the convention. But technology came to the help. As the meeting got underway without the singer, Yesudas called on the mobile and urged the organisers to let him speak to the audience live.

The mobile was put to the public-address system. The singer, who apologised for his absence, spoke for a couple of minutes. He noted that the elements belonged to the almighty and should be equitably distributed among the human kind.
