KOZHIKODE: Government college teachers have alleged that the State government is delaying the implementation of revised salary announced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for college teachers in order to deprive the benefit to the large number of teachers who are due to retire in March this year.

A State convention of Government College Teachers Organisation (GCTO) while protesting against the delay in granting new pay scales also urged the State government to implement the full University Grants Commission package of benefits, including the raising of retirement age.

A spokesman of GCTO alleged that the State government was trying blame the Central government for the delay though “ the fact is that the Centre has agreed to meet as much as 80 per cent of the funds needed to pay the revised salary”.

GCTO has also decided to plan an agitation to press for immediate implementation of new pay scales.
