PALAKKAD: Kerala Congress (J) chairman P.J. Joseph has asked the Centre to include the paddy growing areas of the State like Palakkad, Kuttanad and the Kole land of Thrissur in the Rs.25,000-crore Food Security Scheme.

Inaugurating a dharna in front of the Head Post Office here on Monday, Mr. Joseph said when States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were included in the scheme; a food deficit State like Kerala was not included.

133 districts in the country are covered under the scheme. Kerala was totally excluded. This shows the Centre’s neglect, he said.

Under the scheme, the farmers will get 50 per cent of the cost of production of food grains. This will be of great help to them, Mr. Joseph said.

The meeting was presided over by party’s district committee president K.V. Mani, State secretary M.V. Pauly and district secretary Nice Mathew.
