THRISSUR: AICC secretary and coordinator of National Games Tom Vadakkan has said that he will take steps to improve the sports infrastructure in Thrissur ahead of the National Games. He was addressing a function organised by the Welfare Association of Sports Persons (WASP) at St. Thomas College here on Saturday to felicitate him on being appointed as coordinator of National Games.

If society emulated the healthy competitive spirit of sportsmen, the country would have achieved a lot, he said. Inaugurating the function, sports person Shiny Wilson recalled that she had won her first national prize at the School Games held in Thrissur.

Speaking at the function, WASP president Alphonsa Kurian George pointed out that though Thrissur has produced many promising sports stars district’s long pending demands such as velodrome were not considered by the authorities. Sports man Wilson Cherian noted that nothing had been done to improve the swimming pool here, which was made 20 years ago for the then National Games.

Olympian Mercy Kuttan and St. Thomas College principal Devasy Panthallookkaran attended the function.
