Seven killed, two injured in accidents in capital

Four of a family from Kollam among the dead

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven persons, including four of a family, were killed and one was injured in road accidents on the National Highway 47 stretch through the capital on Wednesday.

The four family members were killed when their car collided with a mini van at Kaduvapalli, near Kallambalam. The dead are Somarajan, 54; his wife, Sita, 53; their son Anoop S. Raj, 26; and his wife, Seethu, 25, of Mukhathala in Kollam. They were coming to the capital. Seethu died in hospital, the police said.

An 11-year-old student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, who was riding pillion with her father, was killed when their motorcycle collided with a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus near Nemom.

The police said the deceased was Abhi Athira of Edakode. Her father, Anil Kumar, 45, who sustained injuries, has been admitted to hospital. He was taking the child to the bus stop.

A man was killed and another person riding pillion with him was injured when their motorcycle collided with a KSRTC bus in front of the Legislature complex.

Hospital sources said the deceased was Francis, 70, a resident of Veli and employee of the local church. The injured, Ivan Thomas, 60, has been admitted to hospital.

A pedestrian was killed when he was knocked down by a mini lorry at Manaluvila, Neyyattinkara, in the evening.

The deceased is Soman, 55, of Lekshumveedu colony at Manaluvila. The body had been shifted to the mortuary of the Government Medical College Hospital.

Accident at crossing

Two persons were injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a train at the unmanned railway level-crossing near Mottamudu on the Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram section. Medical college hospital sources said Sudhir , 30, of Poonthura and Biju, 28, of Naruvamoodu had been admitted.
