Seven killed in accidents

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seven persons were killed in two separate accidents, in the State capital and at Koyilandy, on Sunday.

Three two-wheeler riders were killed and another rider was seriously injured in an accident involving two motorbikes and a KSRTC bus at Nemom on Sunday evening. Only two of the dead have been identified. They are Sherif, aged 27, and Rajesh, aged 25. The body of the unidentified person is being kept at the Medical College Hospital mortuary. The police were yet to identify the injured person.

The accident occurred when the KSRTC bus veered to the extreme right of the Nemom-Balaramapuram National Highway and rammed the motorbikes, which were coming in the opposite direction. The accident occurred at 7.15 p.m. Traffic was blocked on the road for nearly two hours.

Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode: Four persons were killed in an accident involving a car and a private bus on the National Highway near the Koyilandy Mini Station, 20 km from here, on Sunday morning.

The police said the dead were identified as A.O. Shahajan, 40, hailing from Koothuparamba; E.K. Mashood, 30; his brother E.K. Rayis; 22, hailing from Dharmadam; and R. Shiyas, 26, hailing from Kottuparamba. While Shahajan succumbed to his injuries at the Koyilandy Taluk Government Hospital, the three others died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital here.

All the victims were passengers of the car. They were returning to Kannur after seeing off Ubaid, brother of Shajahan , at the Karipur airport in the morning. The accident occurred when the speeding private bus collided with the car which was attempting to overtake a van on the accident-prone highway.
