KOZHIKODE: The district panchayat has directed that spill-over repair work of government school buildings must be completed by May 31. President K.P. Kunahmmedkutty presided over a meeting held at the Collectorate here on Thursday in this regard. Headmasters and principals of the schools concerned were present. Repair work were to be undertaken in 30 government schools in the district, and it was noted that 10 schools had not availed of the fund available to undertake the work. Explanation was being sought from these schools for non-use of these funds. Mr. Kunahmmedkutty said that it was a grave lapse that the funds made available for school building repairs were not being used.

The district had sanctioned a sum of Rs.3.2 crore for the work and of the amount sanctioned, only Rs.73.6 lakh was used by the schools.

If the repair work was not being undertaken, the sum could have been used to buy furniture and laboratory equipment, Mr. Kunahmmedkutty said.

The officials concerned were asked to submit estimates of the spill-over repair work of buildings to be undertaken in hospitals, agricultural farms and chicken rearing centres.
