Scholarships for workers’ children

KOLLAM: The State government has decided to give scholarships to children of cashew workers who are members of the Kerala Cashew Workers Relief and Welfare Fund Board. The scholarship distribution will be inaugurated by Minister for Cashew and Labour P.K. Gurudasan at a function to be held at Kottarakara on Sunday. At the function, Education Minister M.A. Baby will distribute the scholarships.

Chairman of the Board R. Sahadevan and Chief Executive R. Sanjeev said that 5,500 students from all over the State have been selected for the scholarship. The board will distribute Rs.35 lakh as scholarships this year.

The scholarships range from Rs.500 to Rs.2,000 for Plus One students to research students. For the Plus One and Plus Two students selected, the scholarship amount is Rs.500 each, for degree students Rs.1,000 each, for post graduate students Rs.1,500 and for research students Rs.2,000. Mr. Sanjeev said there were a few applications in the research category.

The board would also give prizes to the student who had won the highest marks in each category.
