SSLC, Plus Two examinations begin

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A total of 4,56,518 students appeared for this year's Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination which began at 2,729 centres on Monday.

There are 11 centres in Gulf countries and nine in Lakshadweep. The highest number of candidates sat for the examination at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Pattom, here. Director of Public Instruction A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said that according to preliminary reports, the Malayalam Paper 1 generally elicited positive feedback from students. “No untoward incidents were reported on the first day. We had made arrangements for medical help and drinking water in all centres,” he said. More than four lakh students appeared for the second year higher secondary (Plus Two) examination which also began on Monday. Another 2,500 students wrote the first year higher secondary examination. In the Vocational Higher Secondary section, as many as 27,994 students wrote the 1 {+s} {+t} year regular scheme examination while 26, 696 students appeared for 2 {+n} {+d} year regular scheme examination.

A total of 288 students wrote the 2 {+n} {+d} year examination under the old scheme and eight students appeared for the 1 {+s} {+t} year improvement examination.
