THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The revised list of BPL families in the State will be published in July, Minister for Local Self-government Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said.

Replying to questions in the Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Mohammed Kutty said the enumeration would be completed by this month. The Centre was planning to start the survey of BPL families next year and in that case the revised list to be published in July would be valid only for a year.

A permanent mechanism would be set up for redressing the grievances about the list. The Minister said a minority welfare package will be implemented in Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kollam and Alappuzha. District Collectors had been directed to send proposals for implementing the package, he added.

Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said the State government would accord administrative sanction for civil works worth Rs.500 crore from its own funds as part of the Kuttanad package. A sum of Rs.800 crore would be expended this year under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in the State. A committee headed by the Chief Secretary will monitor the implementation of the flagship programmes like NREGA. No tender excess will be granted to works taken up under the Bharat Nirman programme. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said works under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Project would be completed by December 31. A project for rehabilitating those displaced for implementing development schemes had been submitted to the Centre.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the Janamaithri policing scheme will be extended to 21 more places soon. The government was expecting private investment worth Rs.1,000 crore in the tourism sector this year, he said.
