Retired judges’ meet

Kochi: The All India Retired Judges Association (AIRJA) and the Kerala Retired Judicial Officers Association (KRJOA) held a joint meeting here on Saturday.

The meeting was inaugurated by Ranabir Mahapatra, chairman of the AIRJA.

Inaugurating the meeting, the former district judge emphasised the need for a permanent association of retired judges at the national level. The objective of the association was to disseminate the legal knowledge that former judges had acquired over a period of time. It could also undertake charity services such as imparting free legal advice to the rural folk. The association would also protect the pension interests of its members.

Presiding over the meeting, secretary general of the association Y. Venkiteswaru said the Government was not prepared to implement the Supreme Court order on the pay revision of the officers of subordinate judiciary. The Government wanted to control the judiciary and was not interested in enhancing the pay scales of subordinate judge.
