K.T. Thomas to open anniversary celebrations of India’s first freedom struggle
PATHANAMTHITTA: The former Supreme Court Judge K.T. Thomas will inaugurate the 150th anniversary celebrations of India’s first freedom struggle and the birth centenary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Thiruvalla on Wednesday.
The Swaatantrya Samrakshana Vedi (SSV), which is organising the event, has made elaborate arrangements for the celebrations to be held at Santhinilyam, near St. John’s Cathedral, on Wednesday afternoon.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, organising committee leaders N. Govindan Namboodiri, M.P. Goplakrishnan and G. Nareshkumar said the programme was an attempt to make the younger generation aware of the significance of the 1857 struggle and the Indian upsurge against the British rule.
Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostom will light the ceremonial lamp and N.S. Prabhakaran Pillai, Nair Service Society union president, will preside the meeting.
Tantri of Sree Vallabha Temple Akkeeramon Kalidasa Bhattathiri will deliver the Independence Day message and director of the Aurobindo Study Centre K. Raman Pillai will deliver the keynote address.
T.G. Purushothaman Nair, State president of the Hindumatha Patassala , will address the meeting.
