Employee allegedly photographed patients in

labour room

KOZHIKODE: The authorities of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH), Government Medical College, here have filed a complaint with the police in the incident in which a Grade I employee allegedly photographed patients in the primary area of the labour room at the IMCH.

The employee has been placed under suspension pending inquiry for alleged use of the cell phone which is not allowed in the labour room.

The authorities have also initiated a departmental inquiry into the incident. A panel including Uma Devi, Head of Department of Gynaecology, and C. Sreekumar, Resident Medical Officer, will hold a hearing on Tuesday. The report is expected to be submitted by Wednesday.

T.P. Ashraf, IMCH Superintendent, said a complaint was filed on Monday at the Medical College Police Station in view of the complex technicalities involved in the incident such as the alleged use of a sophisticated cell phone camera. The departmental probe would not be able to look into these issues, he said.

The probe was ordered based on a complaint of a post-graduate student present in the labour room at the time, sources said.
