Price rise: Mohsina Kidwai blames non-Congress governments

KOCHI: Non-Congress governments in the States have failed to take steps for checking price rise, said AICC general secretary Mohsina Kidwai.

Addressing a development seminar organised by the District Congress Committee here on Thursday, Ms. Kidwai said that the State governments could have invoked the Essential Commodities Act to ensure the supply of foodgrains, including rice. All that the non-Congress governments did regarding price rise was to blame the Central government, she said.

The State governments should cooperate with the Central government to check the rise in prices of essential commodities.

Ms. Kidwai said that it was the steps taken by the successive Congress governments that helped Kerala achieve great progress in various segments.

The Congress government at the Centre was committed to the cause of farmers, Dalits, minorities and the marginalised sections. The Union budget had earmarked Rs.60,000 crore for writing off farmers’ debts.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, and other senior leaders were among those who attended the seminar.
